Horizons Group

Horizons was established in the life of Hook Evangelical Church so that informal support could be passed on to individuals who had suffered with a long term illness.

Maz, a member at HEC, tells us how the group came about.

"Ten years ago, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. During this period my life has been characterised by some difficult circumstances. As the fellowship at Hook has moved forward, others have found themselves in similar situations. I felt a common bond combined with a desire to help. I wanted to use my frame of reference to help others as they began the process of rebuilding their mental and physical strength.

In December 2008, Horizons met for the first time. Doom and gloom it is not. The atmosphere is home based, relaxed and blessed by some real characters. We draw on each other but understand that our ultimate strength comes from God in heaven.

The group is not just about cancer. You may have suffered from any long term illness. Through God's grace, our arms are open to you."
